Mill Creek Elementary School

Kissimmee, Florida (Osceola County School District)
The Challenge
The Problem: Mill Creek Elementary, a PreK-5 school serving a diverse and growing Kissimmee community, lacked the cohesive branding needed to reflect its welcoming culture and inclusive educational environment. The school had built a strong reputation for nurturing students from many different backgrounds, but its visual identity was fragmented across campus materials. Teachers created their own graphics for classroom use, spirit wear featured inconsistent designs, and the campus exterior had no unified brand presence that communicated the school’s values to visiting families.
The Impact: Without a cohesive brand system, Mill Creek could not build the visible school pride that strengthens student belonging and parent engagement. The growing enrollment brought new families into the community who had no visual connection to the school’s identity. Spirit wear was limited because no professional artwork existed for vendor production, and the campus lacked the branded touchpoints that signal investment and community pride to prospective families.
Our Task
Develop a complete Mill Creek Elementary brand identity system that would:
- Create a friendly, approachable mascot that resonates with PreK-5 students
- Celebrate the school’s inclusive culture and diverse community
- Deploy across campus signage, spirit wear, and classroom environments
- Support parent engagement through consistent, professional branding
- Strengthen Mill Creek’s recognition within the Osceola County School District
Strategic Approach
Our research into elementary branding for diverse school communities emphasized the importance of creating an identity that feels welcoming and warm to all families. We studied how inclusive schools across Central Florida use visual branding to build belonging, finding that the most successful identities use friendly mascot characters and inviting color palettes that children connect with immediately. The mascot needed to be approachable for the youngest PreK students while still earning the respect of fifth graders.
The color palette was chosen to project warmth and energy, creating visual excitement on campus signage while maintaining a nurturing feel in classroom applications. We selected tones that would appeal to children and families from all backgrounds, avoiding any visual language that might feel exclusive. The design system was built for easy teacher adoption, ensuring educators could incorporate branded materials into their classroom environments without design expertise.
Design Development
The Mill Creek mascot features a friendly, approachable character designed to connect with young students while maintaining the professional quality expected in educational settings. The visual treatment emphasizes warmth and accessibility, with forms and expressions that feel inviting to children and families. The school name and mascot designation are presented in a clear hierarchy for readability at all sizes.
The identity system was deployed across five primary touchpoints:
- Campus signage: Exterior identification creating community-facing visibility and curb appeal
- Spirit wear: T-shirts, hoodies, and family apparel featuring the school mascot and crest
- Classroom materials: Teacher-friendly resources, recognition certificates, and bulletin board graphics
- Administrative documents: Branded letterhead, report cards, and official communications
- Community events: Banners, flyers, and promotional materials for school functions and family nights
Results
The new identity gave Mill Creek a cohesive visual presence that matched the warmth of its school culture. The professional brand system replaced fragmented graphics with a unified identity that appears across every student and family touchpoint. Teachers embraced the branded classroom materials, and spirit wear adoption grew as families connected with the friendly mascot designs. The campus signage created immediate recognition and strengthened Mill Creek’s presence within the growing Kissimmee community.
