Harmony, Florida (Osceola County School District)
The Challenge
The Problem: Harmony Community School, serving 894 students in grades Prekindergarten through 8 in the planned community of Harmony, Florida, needed a comprehensive brand identity that matched its strong academic performance. Ranked in the top 20% of all schools in Florida for overall test scores, the school had earned an excellent reputation but lacked a professional visual identity that communicated that achievement. The existing logo and mascot designs were outdated and did not project the quality, energy, and community spirit that defined the Harmony educational experience.
The Impact: Without a cohesive brand system, Harmony Community School could not leverage its academic success into visible community pride. The Shorthorns athletic program lacked a professional mascot that athletes could rally behind during competition. Spirit wear options were limited by the lack of professional artwork, and the campus environment did not feature the branded touchpoints that signal investment and school pride to families and visitors within the Harmony community.
Our Task
Develop a complete Shorthorns brand identity system that would:
- Create a professional longhorn mascot that captures the Shorthorns identity with strength and style
- Design a crest-style emblem with the school name and Shorthorns designation
- Build a complete brand system for athletics, campus signage, and merchandise
- Develop animated mascot graphics for scoreboards and assemblies
- Provide vendor-ready specifications for all production applications
- Position Harmony Community School as a top-performing school within the Osceola County district
Strategic Approach
Our research into the Harmony community revealed a close-knit, family-oriented neighborhood where the school serves as a central gathering point. The brand needed to reflect both the school’s academic excellence and its role as a community anchor for families with students spanning Prekindergarten through eighth grade. We studied how community schools with wide grade ranges build identities that serve both young children and competitive middle school athletes.
The longhorn was the natural mascot choice, connecting to the Shorthorns tradition while providing a powerful, recognizable silhouette for athletic and spirit applications. The color palette was designed to project confidence and energy on athletic fields and stadium environments while maintaining approachability for younger students and community events. We developed the crest format with the longhorn head centered within a shield, creating a mark that carries tradition and authority while feeling fresh and modern.
Design Development
The Shorthorns crest features a bold longhorn head centered within a shield design, with the school name arced above and “SHORTHORNS” displayed in a prominent banner below. The mark projects strength, tradition, and community pride while maintaining the clean lines needed for reliable reproduction at every scale. A simplified standalone longhorn head illustration provides a secondary mark for patches, sleeves, and small-scale applications.
The identity system was deployed across six primary touchpoints:
- Spirit wear: Apparel, caps, and accessories featuring the crest and longhorn mark
- Campus signage: Blade signs and monument concepts for exterior and interior identification
- Athletic environments: Stadium graphics, field applications, and scoreboard branding
- Merchandise: Complete spirit wear and accessories collection with crest lockups
- Brand guidelines: Color, clearspace, embroidery, and print specifications for vendors
- Animated graphics: Motion graphic mascot for scoreboards, assemblies, and digital displays
Results
The new Shorthorns identity gave Harmony Community School a professional brand that matched its top-tier academic performance. The crest and longhorn mascot created a powerful visual symbol that students, athletes, and families embraced across all grade levels. The animated mascot graphics brought new energy to assemblies and athletic events, while the comprehensive spirit wear collection gave families multiple ways to show their Shorthorns pride. The brand system positioned Harmony as a school that invests in both academic excellence and community identity within the Osceola County School District.
