Discovery Intermediate School, located in Kissimmee, Florida, provides education with a strong emphasis on inquiry-based learning and STEM initiatives. As part of the Osceola County School District, Discovery serves students in the intermediate grades, offering a crucial bridge between elementary foundations and middle school advancement during a critical developmental period for scientific curiosity and exploration.

The school approached our agency to develop an inspiring brand identity centered around space exploration themes that would engage intermediate-aged students while reinforcing the school’s commitment to scientific discovery and STEM education. The identity needed to spark curiosity and wonder while establishing a distinctive presence within the district’s educational landscape.

Through strategic discussions with school administration, STEM faculty, student representatives, and district leadership, we established the following objectives for the Discovery Intermediate School brand identity:

  • Create an aspirational astronaut mascot that embodies exploration, discovery, and scientific achievement
  • Develop a dynamic visual identity system that inspires curiosity and STEM engagement
  • Design a versatile brand that functions effectively across educational and scientific contexts
  • Establish a cosmic color palette of deep blues and silvers that creates immediate recognition

Strategic Approach

Our research into STEM-focused educational branding revealed the importance of creating identities that make scientific exploration feel exciting and accessible while maintaining educational credibility. The visual system needed to capture students’ imaginations during a pivotal age when many young learners either embrace or disengage from scientific subjects.

The astronaut mascot was selected as the ideal representation for several compelling strategic reasons:

  • Astronauts symbolize exploration, discovery, and the frontiers of human achievement
  • The space theme creates immediate connections to scientific inquiry and technological innovation
  • The human element inside the spacesuit makes advanced science relatable and aspirational

The color palette of deep cosmic blue, vibrant light blue, and silver was strategically chosen to:
