Client: Professional and Technical High School (PATHS)
Location: Kissimmee, Florida
Project: Patriot Mascot & Crest Identity
School Type: High School
School District: Osceola County School District
Professional and Technical High School (PATHS), located in Kissimmee, Florida, serves as a specialized educational institution dedicated to preparing students for both college and career opportunities through comprehensive technical education and industry certifications. Established in 1999, PATHS has built a reputation for excellence in developing career-ready graduates while maintaining strong academic standards.
The school approached our agency to develop a distinctive visual identity that would reflect its unique educational focus and professional orientation. Unlike traditional high schools with sports-centric mascots, PATHS required a sophisticated emblem system that would communicate its academic rigor, technical specialization, and career preparedness while still fostering school pride and community.
Through extensive consultation with school administration, department heads, industry partners, and student representatives, we established the following objectives for the PATHS brand identity:
- Create a distinguished crest and Patriot mascot that symbolizes both tradition and forward-thinking technical education
- Develop a sophisticated visual identity system that positions PATHS as a premier technical education institution
- Design a versatile brand that effectively communicates across academic, technical, and professional contexts
- Establish a distinctive color palette that differentiates PATHS within the district while projecting professionalism
- Build an identity system that encompasses the school’s diverse technical programs and pathways
- Create a visual language that resonates with both students and potential industry employers
Strategic Approach
Our research into technical education branding revealed the importance of balancing academic tradition with contemporary professional relevance. Unlike comprehensive high schools, technical institutions must bridge the gap between educational environments and workplace settings.
The Patriot figure and heraldic crest were selected as core identity elements for several strategic reasons:
- The Patriot represents leadership, determination, and pioneering spirit – qualities essential for technical innovation
- The historical figure creates immediate associations with founding principles and ethical standards
- The combination of Patriot silhouette and academic crest bridges traditional education and modern career preparation
- The shield format allows for representation of multiple technical disciplines through quadrant organization
- The established 1999 date marker anchors the institution in time while the crest structure projects permanence
The color palette of teal, green, black, and white was strategically chosen to:
- Project professionalism and technical precision through the dominant teal and green tones
- Create a distinctive, contemporary presence that stands apart from typical school colors
- Provide sufficient contrast for technical diagrams and instructional materials
- Establish an aesthetic that works in both educational and professional contexts
- Balance academic tradition with modern technical applications
Design Development
Mascot and Crest Creation
The PATHS identity was developed with careful attention to both traditional heraldic principles and contemporary design applications:
- The Patriot silhouette creates a distinctive profile with the recognizable tricorn hat motif
- The quadrant shield design allows for representation of multiple technical disciplines:
- Literature/Education (book icon)
- Construction/Technical trades (tools icon)
- Healthcare (caduceus symbol)
- Technology (laptop icon)
- The laurel wreath framing represents achievement and excellence
- The establishment year anchors the institution in time
- The banner system provides space for the school’s name and founding year
The final design features a prominent Patriot profile above a quadrant shield, framed by laurel leaves, with the school name displayed on banners above and below the crest. The ESTD 1999 notation adds historical credibility while the “PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL” designation clearly communicates the institution’s specialized focus.
