Partin Settlement Elementary School, located in Kissimmee, Florida, is a welcoming educational institution known for its strong parental involvement and commitment to student success. As part of the Osceola County School District, Partin Settlement Elementary serves a diverse community of young learners while honoring the historical significance of its name, which references one of the area’s early founding families and settlements.

The school approached our agency to develop an engaging brand identity centered around a Pioneers mascot that would connect the school’s historical namesake with a forward-looking educational mission. The identity needed to resonate with elementary-aged children while establishing a distinctive presence that honored local heritage and fostered community pride.

Through collaborative discussions with school administration, faculty representatives, parent organization leaders, and local historical society members, we established the following objectives for the Partin Settlement Elementary School Pioneers brand identity:

  • Create a distinctive pioneer-themed visual identity that connects to the school’s historical namesake
  • Develop a child-friendly brand system that makes historical themes accessible and engaging
  • Design a versatile identity that functions effectively across educational and community contexts
  • Establish a bold red, blue, and gold color palette that creates strong recognition
  • Build a cohesive identity that fosters school pride while honoring local heritage
  • Create a system that balances

Strategic Approach

Our research into elementary school branding, particularly for institutions with historical connections, revealed the importance of creating identities that make heritage themes accessible and relevant to young children. The visual system needed to transform potentially abstract historical concepts into engaging symbols that would resonate with elementary students while respecting community heritage.

The pioneer wagon wheel and star were selected as central identity elements for several strategic reasons:

  • The wagon wheel symbolizes both historical pioneer journeys and educational progress
  • The star represents direction, achievement, and the guiding principles of education
  • The combination creates a distinctive visual that directly connects to the “Pioneers” naming
  • The historical elements offer rich educational territory for curriculum connections
  • The symbols are immediately recognizable even to young children

The color palette of bright red, royal blue, and gold was strategically chosen to:

  • Create a bold, energetic presence through the dominant red background
  • Add institutional credibility through the complementary blue
  • Incorporate gold for historical warmth and achievement recognition
  • Establish a distinctive presence that stands apart from other elementary schools
  • Reference traditional Americana colors appropriate for the pioneer theme

Design Development

Mascot Creation

The Pioneers identity was developed with careful attention to both historical reference and child-friendly appeal:

  • The wagon wheel creates an immediate symbolic connection to pioneer heritage
  • The central star adds focus and creates associations with direction and achievement
  • The circular badge format provides a containing device that suggests unity and journey
  • The bold typography creates strong recognition and school spirit
  • The balanced composition respects historical themes while engaging young audiences

The final design features a distinctive gold wagon wheel with a central red star positioned within a circular blue badge, with the “PARTIN SETTLEMENT ELEMENTARY” designation curving along the top. The “PIONEERS” wordmark is boldly positioned below in a banner treatment, creating a balanced composition with strong visual hierarchy and immediate recognition.
